Tarifa is famous because of her beautiful white beaches. It doesn’t matter what you like, you will find a perfect Tarifa beach for it. There are great surf/kitesurf/windsurf beaches. Beaches for swimming and a beach for watching the rare birds.
Playa chica, Tarifa’s beach for swimming
This beach is close to the old town of Tarifa and perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Because of it’s really clear water this beach is very suitable for snorkeling and diving. When the wind is coming from the west (also called Poniente) Playa Chica is the best beach to take a swim. It is the most southern beach of Europe and from here you will have a beautiful view on the Isla la Paloma and the entrance of the port of Tarifa.
Playa Rio Jara, Tarifa Beach with the lagoon
This is the place where the Jara river meets the sea. The nice clean and sandy beach is great for kiteboarders, surfers and windsurfers. This beach is wide and flat, which is why it’s perfect to launch en land your kite. At high tide their is a shallow lagoon. That’s why this is a good place for beginners who learn to kite surf or for people who like to freestyle.
Playa Arte Vida, Tarifa beach for waves & music
This beach is surrounded by pinewoods. In October until May this place is busy with surfers, kite surfers and windsurfers because of the waves. There is plenty of parking space. In between the pine trees you will find bbq places, which are often used.
There are bars, restaurants and toilets close by. During the summer this is also the place where you will find the dj’s pleasing their crowd with their music.
Playa Hurricane, Tarifa beach for windsurfers
This Tarifa beach is located near de Hurricane hotel. It’s not a large beach and there are some stones, so it is less suited for kite surfers. Safely landing and launching can be a challenge. But the more experienced kite surfers should really check this place out. During the winter there are little waves which is why you will find mostly windsurfers here. This Tarifa beach is good for sunbathing, especially when there is a strong Levante wind. The cliffs on this Tarifa beach will protect you against the wind.
Playa dos Mares, Tarifa beach for all
You will find this beach 5 kilometers away from The centre of Tarifa. It is a wide and clean beach, perfect for kitesurfers, windsurfers and surfers. Along this beach is plenty of parking space. There are some nice bars where you can enjoy the sun, drinks and food. There is a special teaching zone for kitesurfers.
Playa los Lances, Tarifa’s widest beach
This is the most famous beach of Tarifa. The beach begins at the Isla de la Paloma and stretches along the most hotels, apartments, bars and restaurants in Tarifa.
This Tarifa beach is much liked by windsurfers, kitesurfers ans surfers. It is a wide and clean beach, perfect to practice these sports. During the summer months the area close the town are prohibited to kitesurfers, windsurfers and surfers. In these months, this is the place to be for sunbathing and swimming.
Playa Valdevaqueros, Tarifa beach with nice beach bars
You will find this beach near hotel Hurricane. It is a wide and clean beach with good wind conditions, perfect for kitesurfers, windsurfers and surfers. There are some nice bars where you can enjoy the sun, drinks and food. There are several kite- and surf schools available.
Playa Punta Paloma, Tarifa’s pure white sand beach
This is one of the most beautiful Tarifa beaches. The pure white sand, beautiful views of the Tarifa bay and Morocco makes this place a little paradise. You can find small and rocky coves here, but also coves for water sports. At certain parts of the coves you will see topless people or nudists. There is also a place among the rocks where people use the mud to smear there bodies. It seems to softens the skin and hair. This beach is also perfect for divers, because of the clear water.
